Welcome Aboard The Mousa Boat

The enchanting Isle of Mousa with its ancient Iron Age Broch and incredible wildlife is the perfect place for visitors to experience the essential nature of Shetland.

Situated at 60˚North this wild and now uninhabited island has been visited many times over the centuries, in fact it’s even been mentioned in a couple of the Norse Sagas. Today Mousa is an RSPB Nature Reserve and is home to seals and seabirds including the extraordinary Storm Petrel. The Mousa Boat has also become something of a legend in its many years of taking visitors on the short crossing to experience what makes Mousa special.

The Mousa Boat sailings are as follows:

  • A daily day-time sailing from April to mid-September (no booking required)
  • Our guided Storm Petrel dusk trips, sailing twice-weekly from May to mid-July, booking essential.

  • Storm Petrel Boat Trip

One of Shetland’s most spectacular sights is the return at dusk of hundreds of Storm Petrels to their nests in the broch and field walls after a day feeding out at sea. The northern latitude of Mousa means it never really gets dark in summer (the “Simmer Dim”) and these enigmatic small birds use this half-light to evade predators on their return ashore.
From 18th May the night time trips will be every Wednesday and Saturday until the 24th July.
