Seabirds and History

The seabirds and history tour will be a great mix of the two, we will be looking out for Guillemot chicks, known as jumplings are in their nests high up on sea cliffs around the Noness colony. When they begin to leave the nest the reason for their nickname soon becomes apparent: the chicks quiet literally have to throw themsleves off the cliff tumbling down the cliff face to the sea below. The process can take anything between two minutes and two hours, with the little chick standing right on the edge and obviously fairly reluctant to jump off. They all eventually make the jump, but some take more encouragement than others. The amazing thing about these guillemot chicks is that after their death-defying leap, they then have to swim all the way to Norway with their parents.

Also Puffins on the water and standing proudly in the cliffs.

History will include shipwrecks, Brochs, lighthouses really a little bit of everything.
