There has been a Mousa Boat taking visitors for many summers on the crossing from Sandsayre at Sandwick in South Shetland to Mousa. Owned and operated by Shetlanders Jimmy, Alan and Garry, their knowledge of these waters and Mousa Isle will make your trip a pleasant and informative experience. The journey begins at the historic Sandsayre pier, where the old boatshed, complete with a former ‘flit’ boat, has been developed into a fascinating interpretive centre to provide an insight into the life and times of the local area.
Besides the scheduled day-time crossing and Storm Petrel dusk trips, we operate short cruises during the summer months around the local waters. These trips, lasting approximately one hour give the visitor an opportunity to experience the nature and history of the area, as well as splendid views of the famous broch. A cruise may be of interest to less able visitors as well as those who simply want to enjoy a relaxing and informative excursion. For announcement of the cruises please check our Sailings Update section on the home page.
The latest purpose-built Mousa Boat has seating for 60 passengers, and is a twin engine Class VI vessel fully equipped to stringent MCA safety regulations and is available for private charter – an ideal opportunity for clubs and larger groups or just family and friends.
Booking is not necessary for this trip.
